These calendar openings are significant, yet they do not eliminate every practical challenge. Preparation for the Nürburgring remains particularly demanding. The Nordschleife’s unique combination of length, elevation changes and variable conditions typically requires multiple prior appearances in supporting series or dedicated test days.
Several of those preparatory events have historically overlapped with Formula 1 weekends, potentially restricting the volume of seat time available to a full-time Grand Prix driver. Spa presents a different constraint: three consecutive high-intensity weekends across Portugal, Belgium and Britain would place considerable demands on recovery, travel logistics and focus.

In June 2026, while monitoring the Spa 24 Hours from a distance as his own team competed, he publicly noted that he had already spoken to organisers about the desirability of avoiding a Formula 1 clash in 2027.
“Of course, I wish that I could race in Spa as well. I told them already for next year. It would be ideal if they could schedule it outside of a Formula 1 weekend, so let’s see,” he said at the time. The subsequent alignment of dates has therefore been interpreted as progress toward that request, although the final decision on any entry rests with Verstappen, his management and the event’s governing body.
Le Mans occupies a more distant horizon. Despite the 2027 edition also falling outside Formula 1 race weekends, Verstappen has been explicit that the preparation intensity required, particularly for a first-time participant, makes it unsuitable for the coming season.
